Scouts BSA is the traditional Scouting experience for youth in the fifth grade through high school. Service, community engagement and leadership development become increasingly important parts of the program as youth lead their own activities and work their way toward earning Scouting’s highest rank, Eagle Scout.
Scouting offers many opportunities for our youths to grow and become successful in their future
Leadership is a vital part of the Scouting program. Youth in positions of leadership run the troop.
They take care of the many tasks necessary for troop and patrol meetings and activities to run
smoothly. By accepting the responsibilities of troop leadership, Scouts are preparing themselves
to be leaders throughout their lives.
Scout-age youth experience dramatic physical and emotional growth. Scouting offers them opportunities to channel much of that change into productive endeavors and to find the answers they are seeking for many of their questions.
In the outdoors, youth have opportunities to acquire skills that make them more self-reliant. They can explore canoe and hiking trails and complete challenges they first thought were beyond their ability. There is no greater teacher than the great outdoors.
Scouting programs instill in youth the values found in the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Scouting helps youth develop academic skills, self-confidence, ethics, leadership skills, and citizenship skills that influence their adult lives.
Our Troop is located in Crofton, Maryland and is part of The River Hawk District in the Baltimore Area Council. Troop 115 is an active Boy Scout Troop with an emphasis on the outdoors while supporting the Aims of Scouting: moral character development; citizenship training; and development of physical, mental, and emotional fitness. This is accomplished through the Scout (Patrol) method, with variations that are designed to be appropriate for the age and maturity of each membership division.
We currently have over 50 Scouts divided into 8 patrols. Each patrol leader is responsible for helping develop, encourage and train the younger Scouts in his patrol. As the boys progress in knowledge and skills they each will take on various roles in keeping the Troop running.
Our Troop is also supported by over 25 registered adult leaders and we are gratefully sponsored by Prince of Peace (PCUSA). We meet in the Fellowship Hall of the Crofton United Methodist Church (CUMC) each Monday night at 7:00pm – except for the second Monday of each month which is set aside for the Patrol Leaders Council.
